How to store winter clothes at the end of the season
Packing winter clothes away carefully protects them from moths, damp and stretching.
Clean everything first
Wash or air each piece before storing. Food marks and body oils attract moths and set into stains.
Make sure it is completely dry
Even slight damp causes mildew and a musty smell. Dry pieces fully in the air before packing.
Fold, do not hang
Hangers stretch knit shoulders over months. Fold sweaters and cardigans and stack the heaviest at the bottom.
Use breathable storage
Cotton bags or boxes with a lid let air move. Avoid sealed plastic, which traps moisture.
Keep moths away
Cedar blocks or lavender sachets help, and so does checking the box once or twice during summer.
Label the boxes
A simple label saves time when the first cold week arrives.
